Lost Signals Report[]
This clip appears at the tail end of two films, one released in 2016, and one released in 1982. The video codec suggests a digital, rather than analog, source, making the 1982 dating specious. In fact, the chroma subsampling schema suggests the film/video isn’t that, at all, but rather a series of photographs that, through at least eight iterations, have been made to appear as if moving. Although the extensive notes and annotations accompanying the file refer to a “person/thing” in the large oak tree, and of the “terrible things” that happen in the “barn beside the barn,” the clip itself is bucolic, reminiscent of the sort of nostalgia found in the films of T. Malick. —E. Edgewood
