Lost Signals Article[]

A 1922 Mutoscope film, mis-filed at The Library of Congress in the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division and discovered sometime after the National Film Preservation Act of 1988. Because significant portions of the film are missing, its director is unknown. Silent. 18 mm b/w with tinting. 33 min. Starring Bela Negri. What remains of the film suggests a generic vampire tale, likely inspired by Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (Nosferatu), dir. F. W. Murnau, 1922. The Locust Queen is unusual in that the vampire, Negri, is female, preying on street urchins and prostitutes.
